Rain, again, posed a problem Thursday night for the various District 9 Little League All-Star Tournaments being played across the area.
Cape National Little League waited through a lengthy delay before the start of its pool play game against Pine Island at Jason Verdow Park. After getting started, the game was interrupted a second time, but the game eventually finished with Cape National posting an 11-1 victory, improving to 2-0.
Cape American South (1-1), managed by Shaun Haag, picked up its first pool play win with a 7-4 victory over Fort Myers American, while Cape American North (0-2) fell to South Fort Myers, 11-1.
Play also resumed in the 10-11 baseball championship series double-elimination tournament.
Hancock (5-0) remained unbeaten with a 10-4 win over South Fort Myers. Port Charlotte National eliminated Buckingham with an 8-0 triumph.
PC National and South FM meet Friday in the loser's bracket final with the winner advancing to face Hancock.
Cape National competed in the 10-11 division but did not advance to the championship series.
They finished, though, with a 12-1 victory over Murdock last Saturday.
Cape National received strong pitching throughout the tournament. Against Murdock, Timmy Watters fired a complete game. C.J. Marzullo delivered a two-run triple to spark the offense.
"Every game our starting pitcher went into the fifth inning," Cape National 10-11 manager John Hulfeld said, "we just couldn't get enough key hits."
