A Cape Coral woman was fatally injured today after a garbage truck sideswiped two vehicles and then rolled on top of her SUV, officials said late Monday.

The crash victim has been identified as Connie Pierce, 56. The driver of the truck was Jesus Brogan Avilez, 29, of Lehigh Acres, according to Fort Myers police.

Investigators believe wet roads may have been a factor in the crash.

Police responded to the fatal crash at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and Summerlin Road at 3:17 p.m.

Athorities said a preliminary investigation has revealed the following: A Waste Management garbage truck was traveling east on Colonial Boulevard. The driver of the truck sideswiped two cars waiting in the left turn lane. The garbage truck driver lost control, the truck flipped onto its side and landed on top of a SUV, also waiting at the intersection.

The driver of the SUV was killed in the crash. No one else was hurt.
