Vipers surge past ‘Cats

The Florida Firecats' two-game winning streak ended rudely Saturday night. The Tennessee Valley Vipers pulled away for a 54-29 victory in the arenafootball2 contest played at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Ala.

The Firecats led 29-27 entering the fourth quarter, but the Vipers scored the final 27 points. The Firecats (5-7) dropped to 2-5 on the road this season. They return to Germain Arena Saturday when they host South Georgia.

Firecats quarterback Chris Wallace completed 22 of 38 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns and receiver Chris McKinney hauled in 12 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns.

Magic Benton had a touchdown reception and Brandon Isaiah scored on a pair of short touchdown runs for the Firecats. His second one put the Firecats ahead by two at the end of three quarters.

Tennessee Valley quarterback Kevin Eakin fired six touchdown passes, including two in the final quarter. The Vipers also scored in the fourth quarter on Eric Scott's 26-yard fumble return and a 2-yard run by Lance Ancar.
