Firecats go for 3 in a row

It's not that every week and every game isn't important, but the Florida Firecats' game against the Tennessee Valley Vipers Saturday night is even more important than most.

The Vipers and Firecats are South Division rivals, seemingly always battling for the divisional crown, but the Vipers are the defending af2 champs while the Firecats (2-2) are in desperate need of a win to send a message to the rest of the division.

Beating the Vipers (2-2) will be no easy task for the Firecats.

"They are the defending champs," Firecats coach Kevin Bouis said. "Anytime you can beat the defending champs is a huge win. To beat them this year, however, it'll take us matching them score for score. Last week, Tennessee had to score a last-second touchdown to beat a good Arkansas team, 61-60, and I see us as having to do the same thing to beat them this week."

The Firecats take a two-game winning streak to Tennessee Valley, where they have a losing record.

"Right now, we are a little banged up," said Bouis, "especially on defense. Bryant Tisdale and Terrance Chapman both suffered injuries last week ... but otherwise, we are healthy, had a great week of practice and the guys look ready and prepared for Tennessee Valley."

The Firecats return to Germain Arena on May 1 against the Corpus Christi Sharks.
