OPENING STATEMENTS BEGIN IN TAMPA MOM'S MURDER TRIAL

In opening statements Monday in the trial of a military wife charged with killing her two teenagers, the defense painted a picture of a sick, troubled member of an all-American family and prosecutors read chilling journal entries they say she wrote, detailing how she "offed" her kids.

FLORIDA POLL: BIG SUPPORT FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA

A poll has found that nearly 9 out of 10 Floridians support the use of medical marijuana. The poll released Monday by Quinnipiac University found 88 percent of Florida voters support allowing adults to use marijuana for medical purposes if it is prescribed by a doctor.

FLORIDA AG FINDS WAY TO PAY FOR PRESCRIPTION DATABASE

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is keeping the state's prescription drug database up and running after state legislators decided against funding it. The Florida Legislature did not set aside any money for the nearly three year old program during the annual session that ended Friday. Bondi announced Monday that she would use nearly $2 million from a previous legal settlement with Caremark to operate the database.

SCOTT ASKS FOR FEDERAL ASSISTANCE FOR PANHANDLE

Gov. Rick Scott is asking for federal assistance in the recovery of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, which sustained heavy damage during a major rainstorm last week. Scott formally requested a Major Disaster Declaration for Individual Assistance on Monday. Officials say additional counties might be included in the request as damage assessments continue.

BOATERS RESCUED BY COAST GUARD

Two men were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard Monday morning after they didn't return from a weekend fishing trip. Search crews found them about 12 miles off Fort Pierce, clinging to the overturned boat's hull. They were not injured.
