Bodies of NY couple found in north Florida river

WHITE SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — Authorities have identified two bodies found floating in a north Florida river as a couple from upstate New York.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports that the body of Grace Maynard was discovered Friday morning floating in the Suwannee River near Mayo. The body of her husband James was found Sunday about 1.6 miles upstream from Dowling Park.

Officials say the Auburn, N.Y., couple had been registered at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park campground in White Springs.

The couple's truck was found at a boat ramp outside Jasper. Investigators say the couple launched a small boat from the ramp, and somewhere on the river something happened the caused them to enter the water.

The wildlife commission is investigating.
