MIAMI (AP) — Miami-Dade Police say three officers have been shot and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
One officer was shot early Tuesday, and the others were injured at a separate location in a confrontation with two suspects.
Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta says the first officer's shooting was reported just after 5 a.m. Tuesday in northwestern Miami-Dade County.
Maj. Nancy Perez says the officer was responding to a call about shots fired. She says it's not clear what led to the officer being shot.
Perez says the officer's patrol car was stolen and abandoned in Hialeah. Two suspects acquired another vehicle and fired at other officers pursuing them, striking two in the arm.
The suspects were shot and killed by police. Perez says all three officers were undergoing surgery.
