FLORIDA PILOT SAYS PASSENGER FELL INTO OCEAN

A pilot has reported to the Federal Aviation Administration that a passenger fell out of his small plane into the ocean southeast of Miami. FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the call came at 1:30 p.m. Thursday from the pilot of a Piper PA 46 aircraft. Coast Guard and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue air and water units were searching an area about eight miles southeast of Tamiami Executive Airport, where the plane safely landed.

MICHELLE OBAMA SPEAKS AT DISNEY VETERANS' EVENT

First lady Michelle Obama said Thursday that companies participating in a program to help veterans find employment have exceeded their initial goal by training or hiring 380,000 veterans and military spouses. Obama made the announcement during a speech at a daylong Walt Disney World forum aimed at getting opportunities and developing programs for bringing ex-soldiers into the workforce.

SINKHOLE DISPLACES FAMILIES IN DUNEDIN NEIGHBORHOOD

Residents of several Florida homes have been evacuated due to a possible sinkhole that opened in a backyard in Pinellas County on Thursday. Dunedin Deputy Fire Chief Trip Barrs said the hole appeared to be about 12 feet wide when officials arrived on the scene. Residents of the neighboring houses also were evacuated as a precaution. The ground is so unstable that two homes must be demolished.

FSU QUARTERBACK STORY

An assistant state attorney says prosecutors in Tallahassee did not receive information about sexual assault allegations involving Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston until Tuesday. Tallahassee police investigated Winston in connection with a sexual assault that was reported nearly a year ago in an off-campus apartment. FSU records show the first report was made to campus police on Dec. 7 by a student at a dormitory.

4 DEAD IN CRASH NEAR LAKE CITY

Four people died in a head-on crash along U.S. 90 east of Lake City. Authorities say a car hit a sports utility vehicle, which flipped. Two passengers in the SUV and two passengers in the car died. The SUV driver was taken to a Gainesville hospital.
