FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Two South Florida men have been charged with murder in the deaths of a couple found slain in their apartment.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Friday that 60-year-old Rosario Melici and 38-year-old Michael Marotta each face two counts of first-degree murder. They are accused in the fatal stabbings of 88-year-old Philip L. Russo and his 78-year-old wife, Barbara Russo, of Deerfield Beach.
It wasn't clear Friday if either suspect had an attorney. Both are jailed without bail.
A police report says Melici had offered to paint the couple's apartment a few days before the slayings. The report says both victims were bound and had blue painter's tape on their bodies.
Police also say Melici's cell phone signal was traced to a tower near the Russo's apartment.
