LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — The Usonian House at Florida Southern College was designed in 1939 by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and now the one-of-a-kind building is nearly completed and ready to welcome visitors.
The Lakeland Ledger reports (http://bit.ly/17zfksg) that the Frank Lloyd Wright Sharp Family Tourism and Education Center will serve as a visitor's spot, museum and tribute to Wright.
The college is the site of the largest single site collection of Wright's architecture in the world.
The newly constructed building is the 13th structure on campus designed by Wright.
The name "Usonian" is an acronym of sorts for "United States of North America." The term was used by Wright to describe his style for a typical American family home. About 60 of the homes have been constructed.
