Grandmother in abduction case admits lesser charge

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. (AP) — A woman accused of abducting her infant grandson from his father's Florida home nearly 13 years ago has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in northwest Missouri, where the two were found and identified in September.

Sixty-year-old Sandy Hatte (hayt) was initially charged in Livingston County with felony child abduction.

The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/17fTgTt ) Hatte pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor interference with custody. She was given a one-year suspended jail sentence and placed on probation.

Livingston County prosecutor Adam Warren said any further charges will be up to Florida authorities. Warren says a trial might have ended in acquittal and been difficult for the grandson, who's now 12 and living with his father in Alabama.

Warren also says Hatte had taken care of the boy and enrolled him in school.
