Light pole falls across I-95; no cars hit

October 8, 2013
Associated Press

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A huge metal light pole fell onto Interstate 95 north of Fort Lauderdale and missed all passing vehicles.

The incident happened Monday night after a northbound Crown Victoria went out of control and struck another car. The Miami Herald (hrld.us/1fW7778 ) reports the Crown Victoria then veered into a concrete barrier wall.

Authorities say the car slid up on top of the barrier wall before slamming into the light pole. The car flipped onto its roof and 34-year-old driver Robert Evans was taken to the hospital. His condition isn't known.

The light pole fell across all northbound lanes without hitting any cars.

Debris from the crash also scattered across the southbound lanes, forcing the entire highway to be shut down while the crash was investigated and cleaned up.
