TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Tampa Bay area man who fatally shot a teenage girl while trying to shoot her brother has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

A Hillsborough County judge sentenced 23-year-old Tyrell Bragg on Friday. The Tampa Bay Times ( ) reports that he was convicted last month of second-degree murder. He could have received a life sentence.

Authorities say Bragg was angry at Darrel Hernandez because the two young men had been in a brawl outside a Riverview party in 2011. Bragg was trying to shoot Hernandez, but missed and hit 18-year-old Iesha Washington in the head.
