MIAMI (AP) — South Florida authorities say two women have been arrested on animal cruelty charges after more than 80 dogs were removed from filthy crates on a large truck.
According to Miami-Dade County officials, an anonymous tip led investigators to the truck last week. Officials say Maria Crespo and her mother, Teresa Horta-Barrial, were caught trying to escape with the dogs.
Each woman was being held Thursday on $ 153,500 bail on multiple counts of animal cruelty. Miami-Dade County jail records did not show whether either woman had an attorney.
The director of the county's animal services department says the dogs are available for adoption. Alex Munoz says the agency has "zero tolerance for anyone who does not properly care for any animal."
