SUMMERFIELD, Fla. (AP) — A 10-year-old boy has died just two days after an ATV crash in Marion County that sent him to the hospital with critical injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol says Martez Hawkins was pronounced dead Tuesday at the hospital.
The FHP report says Hawkins was the passenger of an ATV drive by an 11-year-old boy. The driver was on an open field on private property in Summerfield, south of Ocala, when he made a sharp left turn.
The sudden change in direction, the report says, caused the ATV to tilt on its side tires. Hawkins was thrown from the car and airlifted to the hospital. The driver was not seriously injured.
