Scott signs death warrant in north Florida case

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A man who raped and strangled a woman in north Florida 27 years ago is scheduled to be executed on Oct. 15.

Gov. Rick Scott signed a death warrant for William Happ on Tuesday.

Happ abducted 21-year-old Angela Crowley from a Crystal River parking lot where she was using a pay phone on May 24, 1986. He then beat her, raped her and strangled her with her own clothes before dumping her body in a canal.

Police connected Happ to the murder several months later, when Happ had already begun serving a California prison sentence for kidnapping and armed robbery.

It's the sixth death warrant Scott has signed this year.
