Rosko has hit the nail of the head. This deal was sealed prior to Monday's council meeting & prior to The Chiefs' presentation. As for Joe Mazurkiewicz, he is a “PAID LOBBYIST”. A competent “Lobbyist” is someone with strong PERSUASION SKILLS that can use their gift of gab to INFLUENCE individuals into enacting laws or policies that “FAVOR their clients' interests. In simple terms: Joe represented the CRA. Dixie Roadhouse is in the CRA district & its owner Lynn Pippenger, just so happens to be an ex-seated board member on the CRA & also one of the owners of The Dixie Roadhouse. Lynn is a personal friend of our Mayor, as well as most council members + The Dixie LLC & it’s affiliates have given very generous donations to many of our currently seated council members. If anyone still can’t figure it out, they might want to sober up and seek help. It's NOT rocket science.

lawmajor, not one of the anointed ones questioned how much was spent on staff time to put together the presentation by the Police Chief.

They were simply intent on passing the Ordinance irregardless of the costs involved to the taxpayer!

I would love to know why Joe didn't ask Carioscia if he would like to add the security that was discussed for those bars be added to his motion. Why was he in such a hurry to have the vote on it as it was written? Why the hurry to even do this when they knew how businesses would be affected by the stupid streetscape project. The businesses are already crying about lost business.

EXCELLENT question by Lynn "how much was spent on staff time to put together the presentation by the Police Chief?" - Judging by The Chief's presentation, he spent a lot of time + effort putting together his presentation only to find out that he had wasted his time. The deal was sealed prior to the meeting. The money wasted should have to come out of council's budget. To hear CW Stout admit that she had her mind made up that morning, was a slap in the face to our Chief. This was followed-up with her comment that "she did not want to upset Council Carioscia!". God forbid that anyone would upset the dais bully! They all fear him + his wroth. It was refreshing to hear/see the Chief refute Carioscia's lame attempt to contradict the facts presented. Then Mazaukiewicz took a shot at discrediting our Chief. Shame on all of them. They don't have a set of ballz between them.

Grumpy - Carioscia's only concern was to quickly fulfill his promise to The Dixie LLC. Apparently, our Mayor and council were only too happy to oblige. CW Nelson is so friendly with him that she calls him "John". Suggestion: A little more professionalism from her and a lot less cutesiness. Carioscia has them all fearful of him & has them eating out of the palm of his hands. Have you ever witnessed him working so diligently on anything to do with this City before? I haven't.

To begin into the wee hours of Easter Sunday, April 1st. Wish this was an April Fools joke! I am not at all in favor of the extended bar hours. I agree that our Police Chief was not at all respected. If one listened very carefully to comments from the dais and the giddiness from 2 councilmembers.... 1 in particular regarding what they liked to eat from one bar establish their comments were just so sickening it was very hard to even listen to. Just unbelievable!!!!!!!!

"Wish this was an April Fools joke! - Couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately, the fools are the ones seated on the dais, giggling like school children, pointing, winking, calling fellow council members by their first name + then the "GOT YA"!! It's too bad with can't get a re-vote for last November's election. Word on the street is that people are very disappointed. To say that Burch is missed, is an understatement. Gunther & Nelson are nothing more than rubber stamps for Carioscia & then we have CW Stout admitting that she is afraid to disagree with CM Carioscia. I guess she is still in shock over the council event last year where he ripped her a new one! Actually, come to think about it, he also attacked Cosden, Erbrick & Leon last year, but that was in defense of his pal Marni. Do you believe the expression "If you give someone a long enough rope, they will eventually hang themselves? All we can do now is sit back & wait.

Nelson spent a lot of time gushing about how pleased she was with the money for her campaign she got from the bar owners. It was a blatant in-your-face statement that this is corruption and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Cape Coral voted for her, so this is what we get. Maybe Leon should have worn dresses two sizes too small to the debates too.

I would very much like to know a truthful (if possible) explanation as to why the City Manager, Mayor and Council would have the nerve to ask our Police Chief & his entire understaffed department to be insulted and go against all legal, moral ethics and integrity to not uphold the safety of our City as a whole? These 2/3 bars will do just fine by remaining at a 2 AM closing. Other businesses in the CRA district operating during normal hrs. are hurting right now. No more favors! It is of my opinion that this decision to extend hrs. of operation for 2/3 bars is not at all Economic Growth. We now have a County Commissioner hiring an expert in attempt to prove he was not driving under the influence. Another would be a former City Dept. Dir. Blood alcohol is what it is after 1 or 2 drinks. No more taxpaying dollars for these bars because some say so! Furthermore, let us not forget our Fire Dept. and EMS services that are required in the time of need.

Economic Growth ? I believe that our once 24/7 large change pharmacy on CC Parkway no longer has the extended pharmacy hrs. If one is in need of any emergency prescription medications, they must drive to Lehigh or go to the hospital. Lots of luck if this is necessary. CC Hospital is understaffed and undersized for such a large growing City. Why not concentrate on medical emergency needs vs, bars and everything that goes along with a growing City??????? Disagree all anyone wishes to disagree with. You must have issues with understanding or facing reality of what is the truth. Have a great day! Oh, by the way was The Chamber of Commerce represented (aside from Joe M.) regarding their voice on the extended bars hrs. They normally always have a say. As I understand it one of these bars is not a member of the Chamber.

On this Blessed Palm Sunday, let's not forget who is seated substantially higher than those on our dais. This council may think they are getting over on all of us, but they CAN NOT fool the man above and he does like ugliness (lies & deceit). They apparently didn't learn anything from Marni's fall from grace. She went from her luxury dwellings in the "white tower", to a back bedroom in a councilmembers home. So nice of CW Nelson to take her in and keep her abreast of city affairs! A few of them on the dais believe they are high & mightly seated up there on the dais, but in due time, I trust GOD will humble them. Patience is a virtue. The fingers they are stepping on now are attached to the butts they will be kissing later. KARMA

This is why we have a high degree of voter apathy in our City. A good amount of the voting population just give up.... because they feel their voice does not matter as hard as they try. It is always going to be the same old same old.

Fortherecord - I totally agree with you "This is why we have a high degree of voter apathy in our City. A good amount of the voting population just give up, because they feel their voice does not matter, as hard as they try." - I've heard the exact same. I've personally spoken with several ex-Cape Coral residents and their general consensus was "Cape Coral looks better in their rearview mirror". Like you said, people eventually get fed-up and leave. Our elected officials don't get it! They can't handle the power they were given. It immediately goes to their heads & they think "Who they are". They need a reality check.

With regard to the chain pharmacies: There have been a large amount of independent pharmacies opening here in Cape Coral. The chains just might be feeling the pinch and shortening hours.

I believe that a small independently owned pharmacy will go above and beyond to help their customers. Some even have "free delivery". One downfall is that they also have limited hours of operation.

Since a few chosen bars in the CRA district have been granted extended hrs. of operation for 1 additional hr. on weekends and certain holidays.... it would be nice if they threw all their own money into a pot and hire their own independent security company. Then, if needed, a call to our Police Dept. can be made in the event of any emergency issue. The taxpayers of our City are now bearing the cost for their private protection, which is not at all appreciated. I do not believe that anyone wishes to take away what is claimed to be safe establishments in order to have fun, unwind, dance & to meet and greet. When a citizen approaches the podium to express their sincere feelings regarding this matter let those people speak, because at times they become very passionate regarding the protection of our citizens as a whole. And, most importantly, to stand up for the men & women who are hired to protect and serve. No more favors please for a certain few!

"threw all their own money into a pot & hire their own independent security company" -- Why would they do this when our Mayor + council is only too willing to foot the bill. The Dixie Roadhouse received "the golden ticket". They got the extension they wanted, at no additional cost to themselves. Whoever said "You can't have your cake & eat it too"? Didn't you notice that Shelley from BackStreets never went on the news seeking this extension. It was only The Dixie. It appears that BackStreets didn't really care one way or the other. The campaign donations really paid off!

"When a citizen approaches the podium to express their sincere feelings regarding this matter let those people speak, because at times they become very passionate regarding the protection of our citizens as a whole." - YES, it appeared that a certain councilmen couldn't handle the truth last evening. There were no names mentioned, but there was NO mistaken who she was referring to & he couldn't handle it. Did his conscience get the best of him? If that wasn't an admission of quilt, I don't know what was. There was more than 1 person who spoke out about the extended bar hours last evening & they all had valid concerns.

Carioscia is the single biggest bully that sits on the Dias!!

He cannot stand to be called out on his BAD behavior! Therefore he attempts to shut you down with a point of order!!

I NEVER mentioned his name not once! Think he kinda thin skinned!

What I said and how I said was totally within the Rules of the meeting!

The interesting part is that they can call you out by name with regards to your comments but citizens are not allowed to point things out said by a Councilmember or the Mayor. What a joke this crew is!
