The men that fought for the South deserve to be honored as all Veterans deserve to be honored. They fought for what they believed in. Slavery was an underlying issue in the Civil War. The main issue was states rights. The federal govt. tried to tell the southern states what they could and could not do where slavery was concerned. There were slaves in the north but that was never brought into the mix. It was only the south that was being told what they could or couldn't do.

If you knew anything you would know that slavery was just a very small reason for the civil war. Try picking up a history book sometime before you write a letter.

Mattachione..I enjoy listening to different points of view but when you got to the part about all convicts are slaves. Well, u lost me. Soo, to be clear; If a person (Black White or Purple) breaks into my house and kills my wife-gets caught with the gun that killed her and is convicted - then ends up in jail, then the murderer of my wife is a slave? If the murderer is a White or Purple man then is he just a convict, not a slave? Did I miss something? I need to start drinking again. I'm really confused.

Excellent letter sir. Too many so-called intelligent people try and justify the confederate cause by claiming the reason was state's rights, not slavery. But these same intelligent soles refuse to see that slavery was the root cause for their claims for state's rights. Abolishionists were working hard to help slaves escape and then protect them once they were up north, even after the southern controlled Congress made it a crime to help runaway slaves. I honor all American soldiers who paid the price of glory, no matter what state they are from, but the confederate flag is a sorry piece of our past and nothing more!
