To the queen and her court?

January 16, 2014

To the editor: I would like to remind the queen of Cape Coral she and her court (new members of the Slick Six) were voted in to stop the spending and move the city forward, not treat it as her own......

Love it, Comstock. For the first time in my adult life, I sat out this last election. The choice was so incredibly bad, even holding my nose and voting didn't work. I expect more of the same old, same old from Queen Marnie and her Court! Good one!

Just once I'd like to read an LTE that criticized someone which included solutions from the author after the moaning. Anyone can whine and complain and say someone else is doing somthing wrong, tell me how you would do it right, let's hear what you got Mr. Comstock. Let's hear your solution to the perceived problem you write of. No generalities, specifics.

Some people have a hard time with timelines. Everything he is complaining about occurred under the previous council.

The citizens need to realize that this mayor and council know what is best for you even if you don’t. The extra taxes you are paying are necessary and how dare you question them or the dais. It is your duty as a citizen of this great city to pay these pittance taxes. If you don’t like it here then move! This great city will move forward without you.

Princess: The City Council is there to serve the people, not tell them what is best for them. Are the new taxes really necessary, or are they just a way to spend more on a wish list for the City Manager? You also make a statement, "how dare you question them or the dais". Every citizen has the right to question anyone on the City Council.

Solutions along with the judgements made by most, would be most beneficial, but, this is Cape Coral. Why would anyone want to try to help with actual solutions, when they can continue to throw mud on wall and watch whatever sticks, and then attack. We had a "King" and he failed with all of his "projected corrections and useless investigations with no findings at all. We had a "Colonel" who attempted to lead by reaching the end of the road and hoped we would jump off just like him, but...he's gone. Now, we have those who are trying to "challenge" to find a solution to problems caused for years by all. Good luck. For those who chose not to vote, hope you are working to find the "savior" everyone is looking for. We had the "Prince of Fools" for 4 years and, hence, look where we are. He did nothing, voting for nothing, and had nothing to offer to "correct" anything.

2014 City of Cape Coral< Fl is going to pay $36 million in debt service (interest) on borrowed money. On many bonds issued that have not been retired in 30 plus years just rolled over into new bonds.

Many of those bonds are General Obligation and have to go the full term of the years they were issued.

The best part is the amount of the loan still has to be paid off.

While debt is not bad and mismanagement of debt is bad. There is no plan to REDUCE the debt service.

They needed $20 million to not have the utility tax, and fire assessment. A 5% bonus on base wage of every city employee. Why was the debt service Not cut by an 1/4 9 million or 1/2 $18 million or 3/4 $27 million to live within a realistic budget? The answer is simple MISMANAGEMENT. How are you liking the new fire station being torn down due to mold? Because like other equipment it went UNREPORTED and NOT MAINTAINED. Who debriefed the new chief for real reasons why he left? Litebulb...As is customary with your responses, they return to yesteryear without any confirmation that "previous Councils" did anything to try to stem the tide. As is customary, your condescending attitude to prove how "proficient" you are, fails in its entirety.

So now Sullivan aka JJSully is calling the union reps idiots, some he will deny in the future. We know its him because he didn't cry foul like every other time he accused someone of copying him. He always was a loser and always will be! John, put a cork in it.

I say the mayor should go to LCEC, grab him/it by the chest hairs and say, "this is how it's going to be, see! We're going to collect just one more tax (we didn't do the others) of .70/mo on the elec. bill. Out of that we'll subsidize you paying any person who puts solar panels on their roofs .24/kwh (double what they pay LCEC) for 10yrs to pay them back for their purchase of panels (6-8yrs). They’ll then have free electricity going forward. We're going start a new industry (SWF) with the Cape as the hub, creating hundreds if thousands of jobs, just like Gainesville, with its 4.8% unemployment rate and a queue to sign up and put panels on their roof. Oh-as a side benefit, those lucky ones going solar won’t pay that 7% tax because they’ll have no electric bill. Get your house and parent’s house (FP&L) in order. We’re going to let our citizens own, not rent their energy for their homes and automobiles.”

Speaking of Lee County Electric and the city being $112,000 short the first month.

I will bet the city manager John Szwerlag annualized the first months receipts. Instead of figuring out what percentage by month of the killowatt hours LECE collected by month last year.

You see the month of October temperatures are not what they are in April, May, June, July, August or September.

They will be looking to bump the percentage of the tax from 7, to 8, 9, or even 10%. Which is what he wanted to do when the Utility Tax was first proposed.

The cut in the millage rate of 1/4 point won't be there for long.

Lightswitch, to date you have not been correct with any numbers, rumors, projections, predictions, or solutions. Why on earth would anyone take you seriously now? All your numbers are skewed, your rumors are just that rumors, your projections are all based on the skewed numbers I already mentioned, and your predictions are usually so far off it's no wonder you have become "the Boy who cried wolf". Last but not least, you have yet to offer ANY viable solutions to your incessant whining. You are a broken record, last verse same as the first.

Mr. Comstock, I don't recall reading any former LTE's from you referring to previous Mayors as "King". Thus, the fact that you choose to refer to the current Mayor as "Queen" instead of "The current Mayor" or "Mayor Sawicki" is very telling. It tells us that you are a chauvinist and have an issue with a woman being in a position of leadership. How about we quit focusing on her gender. Her gender had nothing to do with getting elected. People of both genders voted for her because they thought she was the better candidate, just as voters of both genders thought the better candidate was Mr. Sullivan. Get over the gender issue!

You're electric bill, AND THE SEVEN % TAX ARE BASED on the kwhs of electricity for which you are billed.

If you produce your own kwhs of electricity w/solar panels via net metering you are not billed, thus no PSC tax.

We are paying for private corporation’s, Duke Energy and FP&L's capital equipment (nuclear plants and beefing the grid), that broken Crystal River nuclear plant and the second abandoned second nuclear project in Levy Co. FP&L will do the same and we are paying for the corruption of our legislators letting them precharge us for capital projects and keep those funds. Now we’re paying for their disaster at Crystal River.

Mayor, lead your constituents around this dangerous and expensive blunder by bringing solar to CC. We have a supplier here with the best price ($3/watt turnkey) and American made equipment.

Embrace our moniker…THE SUNSHINE STATE.
