I agree with this letter. The city of Cape Coral needs a serious change of direction for the small business owner. The slant towards the big box stores and large food chains does not help our long term economy.

Nice letter Mr. Pound. The anti-small business culture has persisted in Kape Koral for at least the last 30 years. Occasionally, they’ll give away money to entice some unknown out-of-towner (Sonic Jet is my favorite) to convince the casual observer of their sincerity. Most of their “business friendly” propaganda is manifest in rapid approval for large corporations. Witness the velocity regarding the latest trend “dollar stores”. In the space of 3-4 months the zoning can be changed, permits issued, inspections completed, and occupancy approved! We have a multi- tenant commercial property and time & time again the prospective tenants are ground up like hamburger trying to gain approval for their small business to move-in. Presently, we have a prospect that has been waiting 3 months for approval! It would seem that the powers that be are either afraid for their jobs or awaiting an envelope full of cash. Perhaps a little of both.
