Cape Coral should have a new name, Tax City

August 30, 2013

To the editor: This city is out of control — we are getting a tax increase, a fee on electric bills, and now a fire fee increase. And most of the fire increase is for road work; what a joke....

DooDoc how much was it compared to the building being built in Orlando for $40 million?

Why was it first passed for construction at $110 million?

The Police Station was originally $110 million. After an uproar from the residents at city council meeting and media. It was said the city was putting a pencil to the $110 million and it was reduced to $62 million. Go look at the cit's issued BOND for the Project! Just very interesting the City of Orlando knows how to build a police station from the ground up for much less fewer dollars! Oh and it is going to have a jail as well, for the $40 million.

Thanks for the insight senseless!!! Now I am convinced Marni is my candidate. Anyone that can bounce back from struggle and adversity such as that deserves my vote. Not to mention she is not part of or tied to an organization that would stoop so low as photographing small children without parental consent to make a political point. Marni gets my vote!!!!

@MrCommonSense: You scumbag RAGs are really scared...you know these are all lies, but that won't stop the scared RAGs who are backing Sullivan, from spreading vile and contemptuous lies. Isn't there already one lawsuit pending against one of you on the dias already? Defamation and liable are things lawyers get involved with and could cost someone a pretty penny. Just saying.

When I vote in this primary and in the general election my decision is going to be heavily weighted on one factor. I am going to vote for the candidates that I think will stay out of my pocket. We will not know until November where the chips are going to fall but I sure hope the voters pick fiscally responsible candidates. These new taxes and fees are harmful.

Wasn't it closer to $30 million, including construction, land, design and equipment?

Ever project done in this city seems to have a price tag of twice or more than other cities.

Who is the silent partner? Developer, bond issuing company, private individuals, Avatar?

The water & sewer project is another rat hole without answers.

The coverage of a Fire Dept with bonds being issued year after year as a Fire Assessment.

The residents need answers not rhetoric with the word forward thrown in when no answers or reality are not forthcoming.

Don't forget the $5 million fire stations.

Where has all the money from our taxes gone?

City of Orlando has a project in the development stage.

What is it? A police station in their "Down Town", larger than the Dewey, Cheatum & Howe building near our city hall.

I have been waiting patiently for their city government to put a cost to this project.

First the city of Cape Coral built a 5 story building with at first a plan of $110 million. Then the people became infuriated with the cost and a pencil was put to the project.

The reduction came to $82 million a reduction of $28 million dollars. Wow what a savings.

The city of Orlando is spending $40 million on a building larger than the one built in Cape Coral. A difference of $70 million less than the Cape Coral original Plan and $42 million less than the Cape Coral finished product.

I ask. Where is the MONEY? What is it really being spent on?

Who is getting rich off these projects? Besides being a question for the city government and the police department.

Spegele, your lack of City Administrative knowledge is astounding. Union employees have cut their pension benefits to the tune of 125 million dollars & have received no pay raises in 5+ years. 25 percent of the serice employees are GONE! Your lack of knowledge of the First responders in this City is only surpassed by your lack of common sense. Do we really want volunteers? Volunteers who work fulltime jobs (they have to get their money somewhere) and we then call 911 and then dispatchers try to get a hold of our voluteers at work, some working in Ft. Myers, others working on construction sites, etc. and these volunteers are expected to drop everything and what, get into their personal cars/trucks and then press peddle to the metal, to the house on fire? Bwahahahaha! Please take a course in City management for those Cities with a population of over 500 people. Bwahahaha! What a piece of comedy that you wrote! Bwahahaha!
