1Sandy based on what you say may be that is the answer. You have it!

The city of Cape Coral, Fl. needs to close it's city hall, tear it down and replace it with the picture of the city hall in Springfield, Fl. When I checked that city's website to look at their Fire Assessment I saw they posted a picture of a building resembling a double wide trailer. By the way the Charlotte County Offices are set up in space or steel buildings. Just a side bar.

I wonder what their Police building looks like. I am quite sure it was not proposed at $130 million and then built for $82 million.

This is just one of the only three cities who have this Separate Fire Assessment Tax. Right 1Sandy.

Charlotte County built it's Fire Stations for $250,000 and Cape Coral spent up to $5 million on fire stations.

CLASS WARFARE!! All the RAG posters have a common theme: blame the 1,200 city workers (not all are IN a union---this is a Right-To-Work State). Are RAGs suggesting that those 1,200 workers should support the 165,000 city? The oath “To Protect and Serve” or term “Public Servant” does NOT mean a lower class or servitude. We no longer have a ‘Servant Class’ in this country, or indentured servants, and Lincoln freed the slaves. Having a boat-load of money does NOT entitle RAGs to threaten, belittle, menace, and condemn their fellow citizens! Now we have people claiming that THEY are the judge of how much and when our employees should be paid! Shame on YOU, RAGs!!! Angelsonly: I did forget that Mr. Donnell served honorably in the Marine Corps.. My mistake. The other 5, Carioscia, Nesta, Erbrick, McClain and McGrail didn't serve in the military.

Grumpy, I have researched all of the current council. Donnell and Leetz both have honorable discharges. Donnell-USMC, Leetz-USAF.

CapeCoralCuestions: you don't comprehend much of what you read. The statement I wrote concerned having to pay the PST and Fire assessment, but not getting any benefit from the mil reduction. Also, you lied when you said disabled Veterans get their trash picked up for free. How wrong can you be? Non ad valorum taxes are paid by the disabled. It is not a total free ride.

Your questions and assertions are disturbing and vile as usual!

Would a motorized wheel chair and the use of one arm give you a clue as to his disabilities?

Tell us what did you give up for your Country?

What gives you the right to post anonymously your vile comments?

Have you no gonads to post under your own name! Thought not!

LIARS! (DAV) “get to pay without any benefit coming back to them.” Grumpy and Shannon. Are you kidding me? Disabled Veterans are not paying ANY taxes and for that you live here with our canals, parks, police, fire and 911 medical coverage, get your trash collected, street lights, libraries, some of us call that an extremely valuable benefit coming back to you! And can we ask exactly HOW disabled you are and the wounds you suffered? Somehow I don’t think a lack of common sense or empathy for others should qualify as a Veterans Disability! Google “Tammy Duckworth and IRS and Veteran Disability”. LIARS! McGrail doesn’t run council but you all target him because he is the one running that’s not a RAG (Williams is a RAG!) Yeah,in 4 years having caused nothing but hatred & dissention & slandering the name of our city, we should keep Sully (who NEVER served in the military) and Leest (censured by the State Professional Firefighters IAFF)?

Can anyone give me a good reason to vote for any of the mayoral candidates? The lack of choice, the total lack of candidates’ knowledge, experience, intelligence, civility in that race are absolutely frightening. It’s a buffet of used-to-be’s and defeated candidates of yester year.

Thank God we rid ourselves of McClain before the primary - you know, the guy who couldn't remember where he lived. Unfortunately, District 1 is a mirror image of the mayor’s race. I have no clue. Burch? Really?

I agree that McGrail has to go. He’s in way over his head and all he's thinking about is his next move - mayor or county commissioner. It's obvious he doesn't give a hoot about the folks he's supposed to represent. My vote will be an anti-McGrail vote.

Psycho-Leetz with his many personal problems also must go, but I'm not real thrilled with the choice there either - another "anti" vote.

Sigh. Election time in Cape Coral. It’s enough to make you break out the Xanax.

Go ahead and vote for John Sullivan and Chris Chulakes-Leetz and when your parks are closing, core services such as fire & police budgets are cut and ALL roads look like the North roads, what then? No commercial venues will ever come to a city that has those problems and you know it. 4 years ago we voted for a Mayor and a leader, we got John Joseph Sullivan instead. Vote the BUM out.

I am not opposed to the tax but I do concur with grump, vets should get a break. I would much rather see vets get a break than churches.

I wrote about this awhile back also. There are many out there that will tell you that you should be paying. They are the ones that never served in the military and enjoy what Veterans gave them. Those that are not disabled Veterans will get a 1 mil decrease, while the Veteran only gets to pay without any benefit coming back to them. Their disability compensation from the VA is not a negotiable thing, so there is no guarantee of any kind that it will increase every year. This council is bent on circumventing the Florida statute that gives disabled Veterans the benefit of no taxes. I believe that there isn't one of the slick six that ever gave up part of their life to serve in the military.
