CLASS WARFARE!! All the RAG posters have a common theme: blame the 1,200 city workers (not all are IN a union--this is a Right-To-Work State). Are RAGs suggesting that those 1,200 workers should support the 165,000 city? The oath “To Protect and Serve” or term “Public Servant” does NOT mean a lower class or servitude. We no longer have a ‘Servant Class’ in this country, or indentured servants, and Lincoln freed the slaves. Having a boat-load of money does NOT entitle RAGs to threaten, belittle, menace, and condemn their fellow citizens! Now we have people claiming that THEY are the judge of how much and when our employees should be paid! Shame on YOU, RAGs!!! Linda, it appears your hero, Mr. Szerlag is scrambling now that the three legged stool is collapsing. The trust level for council and the city manager is dwindling. We paid the bonuses but left no money if the AC goes or any other problems. There is trouble in River City with a capital T.

@certainsmile: you said, "1sandy, you are really poor at researching." There are is no Jim or James Healy on the "rolls" (Lee County Appraiser rolls) in the Cape. What property is he getting Fire Assessed? Renter? Celebrity? Public Official? Just asking?

Senseless based on the comment you posted all you found was an opinion blog and of course the great 2012 license plate news story that a stalker brought us.

Is it possible that you are just an unhappy person and no matter what you will always be an unhappy person. Concluding that no matter what the City does to move forward and better us you are gonna be unhappy and blame others for your lifes failures. Do you need a hug man?

So far all you give is insults, homophobic innuendo, a license plate, and a rambling opinion blog. Now everyone that disagrees with you is suddenly a city worker.

Linda 53 are you stalking again?

You have threatened people on this site before as well.

I guess you are above the law because you or your husband are city employees?

Last years budget put together by Szerlag brought the city $12 million with a valuation of just over 3%.

What will a 7.13% increase in valuation bring in $28 million.

Now add the utility Tax $7 million.

Now add the fire Assessment $7.5 million.

$40 million plus opening more borrowing into the next 30 years,

Lee County Electric increases cost and that 7% just keeps on bringing in more TAX.

We will see plenty of court time first and maybe even grand jury held right here in Lee County.

Supply and demand. Cape Coral has too many at too high a cost. It also seems there are some other municipalities that had too many doing the same jobs as here. However they divested themselves some not by choice. As far as our illustrious city manager he made the same little speech in Troy, Michigan which was printed in the New York Times almost word for word what he spouted here to the media. He always cover himself stating to the union council. "I' will do anything you tell me to do". The problem is on the council of Erbrick, Donnell, Carioscia, McClain, McGrail, and OMG Nesta. After 1 year of these new taxes and more foreclosures. October Electric bills can't get here soon enough, along with that junk mail from the city most of the sleeping residents have not read the Fire Assessment amount. What happens when the sleeping yellow dogs is awakened in this city. It is going to be very amusing especially for many of the bloggers on this site.

John Szerlag was hired by the council. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Sullivan vote to hire him? His salary negotiations, history, and all facts about him were open game. I took the time to read the articles and all I could find about the allegations being made by senseless were a local blog. I did find an article in a paper stating he gave some big warnings that trouble was coming down the pipe if there then council did not take a look at some huge issues.

All I know is that Troy Michigan lost a major player in there local economy when KMart corp pulled out of town. We took a major hit when our largest industry took a dive. It is now currently rebounding and folks are getting back on track slow but sure. Hence, the two cities are not necessarily comparible. Also when troubles were biting into to Troy they sought out Mr Szerlag to come back and help clean it up.

So to date... All I have seen negative and factual was a license plate (ridiculous) and an opinion blog.

Mr. CommonSense, you posted "I love how you trolls try to track people down using public records yet use fake names and disguises yourself, hypocrites" and you state you are "not tracking anyone down" and you "won't post your real name because you want to expose the frauds". Based on your comments, in my opinion, that makes you one of the "frauds". Being so angry is not healthy.

1sandy, you are really poor at researching. It took me less than a minute to locate TWO persons with the name of James Healy in the Cape. One is in his twenties and the other is in his sixties.

Unless Mr. Healy is in the category of "hidden rolls" that is, the status of a celebrity, law enforcement or elected official, etc., there are no Jim or James Healy to be found in the Cape.

@MrNOCommonSense: Careful with you allegations and accusations. SZERLAG is NOT an elected official and appears to be the type to haul your derrier into court for defamation & liable if you are not spot on with your alleged "facts." Just saying.

Actually the SOH is an amendment to the state constitution, not just another local shakedown ordinance. The amendment requires that all homesteaded property shall be protected by the 3% cap. So who is the law breaker if we refuse to pay the Fire service tax? “The SOH Amendment is a state constitutional provision approved by the citizens of Florida on November 3, 1992, designed to limit the annual valuation increases to homestead property for ad valorem tax purposes.2 Article VII, §4(c) of the Florida Constitution.” How many times are we going to submit to the local thugs that ignore the law? The reason for all of these special non-ad valorem assessments is the state cap on millage rates and the SOH. It was enacted to prevent runaway taxes on real property. It protects the taxpayers from irresponsible gov’mt.! (of which, we’ve seemed to cornered the market)

Mr No commonsense: I'd like to see you or anyone run a city without employees. And every single person in this city has a special interest. You can count on that. Or are you talking about groups like the construction industry? If so, you need to understand that they build our city. Or maybe the tourism groups? Yeah, right, they don't do anything for us. Bwahahaha. You are a fool.

Szerlag was appointed to the city manager job. Since then, all I have seen is spend, spend, spend. Where are the saving for today? I have seen where pension reforms have been made, but, they are for new hires. Pensions continue to remain at the same level as they have been for current and retirees. Linda53: The ad valorum has always worked. This diversification plan will not solve the problems for the taxpayers. Who is going to pay these new taxes? The taxpayers. All this did was take from one pocket and use a different pocket. Supposedly matching the taxes with a 1 mil decrease doesn't help me, or other disabled Veterans. We cannot really afford to pay these new taxes on the limited income we receive. These new taxes should be ad valorum taxes so that the disabled Veterans don't get screwed over. Even thos that are not disabled are getting the shaft with these new taxes. 1 mil will not in all likelihood, match these tax amounts.
