Tax-and-spend needs to stop

August 2, 2013

To the editor: I have kept abreast of what goes on with votes on the City Council. All I have seen since the election, is a tax-and-spend mentality from six on council....

1sandy: the woman that the incident occurred to, told the police on the scene. It was not up to me to report it as I only heard what she reported to the officer.

@grumpy19: It appears that in your haste to dump on our firefighters, for what ever reason, you truly worded it wrong. That's ok, but you haven't answered my question, Did you report to anyone of authority?

I read the comment. As I stated in my original comment all groups should be held accountable. If in fact the story is as you wrote it, then the process of accountability needs to happen. Fair is fair....

Hey, thank your lucky stars that Chulakis-Leetz didn't respond. Mumbles and Erbrick probably have one of those automatic responses set up for their email . . . although I doubt if either of them is savvy enough to even call IT and have it done . . .

I did tell the story. You must not have read all the comments, Packer. It wasn't meant as a threat. Maybe I could have worded it differently, but council is not aware of what had happened on that night. I got to the scene after hearing minor explosions. This also occurred around 2:30AM. That is when the police interviewed the woman that did all that I described. I was standing right next to her when she told it.

"I think some on Council would be interested in one story, which is fact, I have to tell about our fire department."

Grumpy a threat may have not been your intention here, but read your own words I took it as a threat. Why not just simply tell the story? My comments would have been different than they were.

I was not the one that experienced what I described concerning the fire. I was next to the woman who explained all that happened to a police officer at the scene. I should have been in the police report also. As for the email I received from Council member Erbrick. I sent my email to the entire council. Her answer was just "thank you for your comments". That's not an answer to issues I and many others are concerned with.

1. Why did you not come forward with this story when it happened?

2. Thank you for your comments enraged you?? Why? You assumed it was an outrage from the Council Member? Why? Did you speak personally with her and she gave you and outrageous answer? Tell us all. It is important.

So, after how many calls and years of service that the fire department has responded to, you come up with a "story" like this. Ok, if it is true, and there is no reason to doubt you, somebody should be held accountable. Did you go and bring this "story" to someone of authority's attention? If you sat on this story, without going to the proper City Management and reporting same, then you sir are complicit. We all want responsible and responsive emergency services and 1 story like this is 1 too many, but if Management is unaware, then nothing will be changed. Just saying.

Packer, the story I have is about a house that burned to the ground. This house was less than two blocks from a staffed firehouse. The fire was seen right after it started. Someone tried 911 and was put on hold. This same person ran to the firehouse and banged on the door. Nobody answered the door. That is not the fire service one expects. By the time the firehouse finally responded, the fire had be going for at least half an hour. The question comes, why wasn't anyone awake to take the call? Someone should always man the desk for any calls that come in. In answer to your accusation of my being cowardly about the story. No, I was not being cowardly. I was trying to keep my letter as brief as possible. I also did not make anything a threat.

Is your idle threat of exposure supposed to be the big moment that scares government into a massive shape up? You may have one story and it might even be true.... But the story you would be to coward to write about is the day you or a loved one might be sitting in a mangled car in a life threatening situation. In that story you might find yourself grateful to have our well trained fire, rescue, and EMT on scene. Folks like to rip on our fire and police until they need them.

All groups need to be held accountable but, idle little abstract threats is the local paper are not gonna gain accountability.
