Council rejects land sale offer, but may work with local business

A restaurant owner looking to help his booming business didn’t get much from the Cape Coral City Council during its regular meeting at city hall on Monday, at least for now....

"I don't think anyone here wants to stifle jobs. We spend great money to attract businesses and we're not helping them," Sullivan said. "It's a contradiction on our part." Mayor Sullivan is one of the few that “get it”! What fool would turn down this offer? This parcel is tiny compared to the 652 acres of the purchase. It is just big enough for a one lane boat ramp and sign that says “McFail Yacht Club North”.

Yes...it's really JUST you! An offer at less that HALF of what the land is currently assessed at is NOT a good deal. The "business"is located in Matlacha NOT Cape Coral FYI. The land is a far cry from worthless as everyone will see when we don't have to buy all the right of way for the Burnt Store Rd. expansion. Plans for much of the other land ARE being studied by city staff now. Go join your buddy Pete at Babe's for another drink...or does Janet have you on a short leash these days?

It must be me. The city is strapped fopr cash but they would rather put through the new taxes and hold land OFF the tax rolls?

If this guys offsets buying any part of the 274 acres of worthless land at $13.1 million puts it on the tax rolls and the city then collects every year REAL ESTATE TAX that is bad?

City says we are business friendly? Are we going to hold the untaxed land. Why? A boat ramp? A park? Just to say the city has it?

I can only say that the city is more interested in squeezing the residents here now out. That way with the turnover the real estate sales offices have product to sell at depressed prices.

If you have property or a home the value supposedly goes up 7.13% but your overhead to run care for or run the home are above your means. What does one have? Debt the same as the billion dollars is on its way to when they can't even figure what to spend the new wind fall tax money on.
