Communication is key

July 3, 2013

To the editor: The number one issue I see with the current state of our city, is the lack of communication between the members of our local government and our citizens....

The one problem that I have with your leadoff is that you are using your stepson to bring attention to yourself. Start with what solutions that you have qualifying why you should be elected. Just my opinion..

Give specific examples to what you will do for the Cape. Stop talking in generalities. Lack of communication? The Council can't please everyone when the Council makes a decision, so someone is going to say, they are not listening to me.

Things that make you say hmmmmmm -"lying off" employees? 20 years of unidentified "business experience." Renting cars qualifies you to run a city? "Black sheep of Lee County?" Really?

Absolutely no identification of the city “problems” nor any specific “solid solutions” or “new courses of action.” How about some specifics for starters? What are the problems? What are your specific, detailed solutions? How will you implement them? This doesn't cut it, Ashby. It just sounds like the same old, same old meaningless nonsense.

Mr Ashby, anyone can speak in vast generalities. What are your specific ideas? This non-sense of speaking the obvious is maddening when delivered from anyone seeking office. Tell us your ideas, what you intend to do, and most you intend to do it.

Is it a travesty that you use your step-son's war injuries to advance your own personal agenda? You mimic the RAG chant of "there is waste and corruption" which over the past 4 years has been disproved. RAG-osours are now responsible for a crumbling infrastructure in this city. Repairs and upkeep neglected and no funds available to correct the situation. All you can say is 'cut spending'. No wonder Dillie danced all over himself attending Cory--the family are RAGs!!!

Welcome to Cape Coral politics. Mr. Ashby there is no problem with communication between the majority of citizens and the council. They are only representing the union and city workers. They are paying back the unions through providing a steady stream of revenue to fund the bloated salaries of the unions. Making more when you retire than when you were working is disgraceful but that will never be corrected. Read the new contracts. These group just rolls over or should I say bends over. Why you would want to join this group is beyond me. Give me specifics and I might vote for you.

Here is a question for Mr. Ashby. You got special treatment to build an addition to your house for your stepson. I have no qualms about that. I would like to know who is paying the taxes on that addition. State law gives disabled veterans who are 100% P&T a break on their real estate taxes if they are the owners. Did you transfer ownership of the property to Cory so you could avoid the taxes?

Grumpy19: Just FYI. Mr/Mrs Ashby are paying the normal/fair tax on their home as of 2012.

CapeCoralCuestions: the question was not for you. The question actually wasn't answered either. What about the 2013 taxes that were paid or not? Mr. Ashby needs to answer to the taxpayers, this question.

@grumpy19: Duh, we haven't gotten the 2013 taxes yet, how can he have paid for them?

Sorry, I misspoke concerning the tax year. My bad. Goes to show a person what happens when they don't handle the house finances.
