I hope you all are keeping track of your kilowatt hours. Nice and hot now and next year the morons that can't see what the Slick Six put through to give you a 1 mil reduction that will be gobbled up by a voracious city government.

If Veterans begin losing their benefits and the retirees are reduced by a new formula for KOLA increases. What will this city do? Request more FOOD DRIVES for the poor? Create another tier method for paying electric, water, sewer.

The percentage rate in Cape Coral, Florida within its demographics is 25% living at or below the poverty level.

Hide 62% of the Fire Department Budget so no accountability is required and the state can't interfere?

@lightswitch: A loser without a life purpose or any credibility. One, who sits at the computer all day and spews lies, venom and vitriol. A 1st class liar and exaggerator who is limited only by his imagination. One, who may at one time, had a big City job in the Cape. Seek professional help lightswitch, there is still time.

Linda 53 stop the horse manure your illustrious city officials spent every nickle they had before and during the meltdown. They never took a breathe on spending.

They put they city in a debt death spin that racked up just shy of a billion dollars.

They made poor at best contractual agreements which this city still does not know if it will be able to honor.

They purchased millions in equipment either hardly used or not used at all.

Wait till the group this bunch is planning to market to the retired Baby Boomers find out KOLA being attempted to be recalculated again.

Inflation will cause Lee County Electric to have to spend more on collections. The city will see more tax payments being strung out and tax deeds sold on the courthouse steps.

So stay the course, keep the direction of more taxes. Why you say? Because it put the city closer to peeling a layer of government bureaucracy away.

Tick, tick, tick!

I meant it when I said to hit the road, if you don't like the way things are done here in the cape.Thank GOD for the Unions because they kept things going until our qualified/experienced city manager could get his skilled staff going in the direction best for the Cape. Hope to see you and the other sunshine babies soon. As for my or anyone else being angry, let's just say that the part you fellas played in trying to bring our wonderful city to financial ruin, will NEVER be forgiven nor forgotten.that's a promise

I think Szerlag did an outstanding job of talking over the councilman who questioned him He was so direct in having the inability to actually answer the question posed to him.

I can't wait to see Szerlag and McGrail try to put Lamar Industries deals together. Somebody is going to be looking at the bid process really close. Public private venture for billboard signage and public transportation bus shelters for passengers. Bring it on!

Classless. That's what a few posters are here, classless, and without thought. It's fine to disagree with someone's opinion or to disagree with a fact, or not like the fact. But instead of pointing out that, they have to insult or attempt to degrade, and make up things along the way. I happen to think that someone who gives up a week's vacation to serve children with disabilities and who works retail is far better a representative than what we currently have on that dais in that seat, which is vacant a lot too. But the point of this Richard's letter was that the mayor was out of line.

@netransplant: Are you saying that our Mayor may have been involved in "hit and runs?" These are very serious allegations don't you think?. Can you supply report numbers or dates and times? Serious, indeed! Hey Sully, you monitor this blog, what say you?

After November, when Sullivan gets his behind kicked out of office, I think his effigy should be introduced as the Emblem of Cape Coral: opinionated, confused, uninformed, and ignorant. I've heard he's also judgmental, never ever wrong and vindictive. But, hush my mouth. Any more talk like this and he'll have the NSA or the CIA or the DOJ or one of those other 3-letter agencies tracking the comments on the Breeze and we'll all be in trouble!

One more thing Grumpy, this RULE everyone is refering to only manifested itself when the former fab 5 controlled the dais, so they could temper the opposition at meetings. Prior to that; Mr Sullivan, Mr Leetz, Mr Deile, Mr Brandt, and Mr Khuene all directly addressed council members from the podium.

Grumpy, Mr Leetz made a backhanded accusation, (as he usually does), and then He,(Mr Leetz), called Mr Szerlag to the podium to respond. Mr Szerlag then took the opportunity to set the record straight regarding Mr Leetz's not so thinly veiled accusation. Once again, Mr Leetz expected to get another false accusation by everyone simply because he sits at the dais. Thank goodness there is finally a man who will not cower to such accusations, or allow them to go unchallenged. It's called having pride in one's self and abilities, and its nice to see, its been missing for a long time in chambers.

OMG..The IRS has become an out of control political action group for the now closed White House..Every email text and phone number has been recorded by the NSA. King O and his crony Holder shred the Constitution daily. Nobel Peace Prize winner Obummer and war hawk Crazy McCain are now taking us to war to help Americas enemies the muslim brotherhood. The economy is on the path to total meltdown and soon taxpayers will get the bill for 11-30 million illegal invaders. The ObummerCare nightmare is just starting to unfold and here we are..like mindless chickens clucking away..City councils just dont seem to work here in the Cape. Where else in the US would one pay 2o some thousand bucks for water and sewer?Cant we become part of the County and put an end to this ongoing never-ending council nightmare in the Cape? Linda53 gets my vote for angriest woman on the Internet..Calm down dear before you stroke out.

onlythetruth: I didn't see the meeting so have no idea if Szerlag was at the podium or on the dais at the time the remarks were being made. If he was at the podium making a presentation, the rule does apply to him. The whole thing would not even be an issue if he had addressed the entire council with his answers to the charges made.

It is unfortunate that the two people who want to rein in city spending are so flawed in other ways. They will probably be voted out, and deservedly so, but beware of who takes their places. The current group in charge is taking the easy way out by raising taxes to the max. They are not making hard decisions.

Grumpy, that rule is in place for the public, (which I don't agree with by the way). Mr Szerlag occupies a seat on the dais just as the council members do, and if he is addressed directly, (as he was by Councilman Leetz) he has the right to answer. It has been too easy for those on the dais to address someone directly with backhanded statements, or outright insults and then proceed to hide behind the weak rule in place that they are not to be addressed directly. That RULE needs to go. If you're a council member who wants to dish it out, they should be willing to get it right back.

JJSully, once again you exhibit the epitome of class with your insulting derogatory statement to Mr Leon. If there is one thing we need more of in today's political landscape its young blood. To see you openly discourage someone who is willing to jump into the fire is what I would expect from you, thank you for not disappointing.

The mayor needs to go! I am concerned about his ability to hold it together. He lost complete control of his emotions over something quite minor. Even if you are a Rag Cap you can't tell me this is the guy you want blazing the trail for our City. Think about it... He completely lost emotional control over that... What in World is he gonna do when faced with a real crisis... Panic? Worst case we at least need someone who can stay calm.
