Regardless of what any of you Post..Without the Proper infrastructure,such as the UEP, no major business corp will build in the cape.. If they can't have the proper water flow to flush the toilets,they will not spend their big bucks here.Simple solution is to complete the UEP,SW 6&7, North 1-8 while the costs are low and affordable.Let's face the truth, water wells and sewer tanks are OLD and are no longer dependable.As for you Lightswitch, Lehigh is looking for a misinformed RAG,such as yourself. Eileyn, our downtown is very sad. But we have shelves full of expensive drawings, plans and dreams. All the money taken in by the CRA has not changed the place very much. It did pay large salaries and provided advertising and paint for the facades but it is still what it was. In this city, lack of funds can't be the total reason for the limited improvements while others have flourishing, vibrant downtowns.

JustAnotherBill, my question to you is the same. Can you identify a parcel of land along Pine Island Road that could accommodate? Yes, there is plenty of vacant land but is there one parcel large enough, owned by one person/corp/LLC that is in a position to negotiate? Or would it have required years of negotiation to assemble a parcel from multiple owners that is large enough? Perhaps there is one but options are limited due to the pre-platted nature of Cape Coral. Even if there was one, it still doesn't mean Hertz was even interested in Cape Coral, i.e. centrally located, easy access to major roads, and other criteria they indicated.

Cape Coral was never in the running for the Hertz Corporation for numerous reasons, and we can all speculate and point fingers as to why/why not. This city has a lot of growing up to do before we can attract major players, as much as we want to be there now, we aren't. I was in Dunedin yesterday, and was blown away at their "downtown" aesthetics. Drive up and down the West Coast here, and see what we don't have in amenities. But we need to have citizens willing to pay to grow, and from what I see on theses forums, we have too many who want to stay in the past. Sad.

Cape Coral Cuestions thank you I am simply amazed one person like myself could do so much.

Here is some self improvement information for you. Change the direction of how Cape Coral does its business, over taxes its residents in services and the BIG BOY COMPANIES will line up to invest here.

Until then if things continue in the direction they are going (DOWN). You and your friends will put up with me and like it. If it is not me it will be another until it is fixed or closed.

For all the pro-city trolls, private sector growth has happened in Kape Koral in spite of city govm’t. Not because of it. Imagine how our little town appears from the viewpoint of a firm considering relocation. It is a huge sprawl of single family homes, several corridors of commercial retail shops, and two small industrial areas. Why bother? The city govm’t. gives plenty of lip service to attracting business (advertising too) but just show up at city hall and try to rent a building or a unit for your business. Misinformation and pocket picking abound! You need a zoning inspection, electrical inspection, fire inspection, change of occupancy (most of the time), get a copy of the building plans to verify parking. And don’t even mention a remodel… Perhaps it is time we make renters of residential properties jump thru the same hoops as business we would then see the true level of growth the city can trickle down on us.

Litewipe: You have claimed malfeasance and corruption and illegal going on. Now you are surprised that a fortune 500 company didn’t come here? Why would they? You and you RAG pals have made the Cape look like a psychotic schizophrenic town where there is too much political and social uproar to be appropriate for a large company to deal with. The RAGs wanted to ruin this city so as to keep their personal taxes low. They have done a great job. Now they complain that a large company won’t come here. What the HE!!

Is a finders fee available if the business that wants to relocate is in our area?

Someone from the News-Press called and is looking for a finders fee. Oh but it is for PALL AREOSPACE seems they are leaving for Dunedin, FL.

I guess the Cape Coral Economic Development Dept. didn't have a pulse on this one either.

Well there goes -271 jobs from the 700 new ones that were not coming to Cape Coral.

But I bet of the 271 there were some homes emptying out in the Cape.

Why there are 100 realtor cards on the desk in their administration office. Hopefully those houses sell before October 1st when the 7% Utility Tax and the new Fire Assessment TAX make their debut! Yep, just sit back watch and wait.

Cape Coral has out done itself.

Oh and I know exactly what I am doing!

Any place a large business would want to settle in has access to water and sewer. Cape Coral Parkway, Del Prado, Veterans, and most of Pine Island Rd already have that and have businesses in place. Is it possible that Hertz simply wasn't interested in Cape Coral? A)We don't have the infrastructure to support them. B)It makes sense that their headquarters be based near the airport and centrally to tourism? C)The CEO owns a home in Naples. D)Negotiations were going on with the state for almost a year before Lee County even knew. At that point, the location was a done deal; there was nothing Cape Coral could have done to lure them here. Sure,it would have been nice to have them here but Cape Coral will still benefit from them being in Lee County.

netransplant do not fret Hertz was not even an option. Our Econmic Development Dept. never knew they were on the radar.

Governor Scott knew and he probably was instrumental in making them that benefactor in Lee County. I was a bit surprised it did not go to Collier County. However the 700 employees will be building, buying, renting in South Lee, Bonita Springs, Collier County and Naples. Anyone want to take a look at that when they get settled? Wait till the book comes out ESCAPE THE CAPE...IF YOU CAN!

If our one half billion dollar RO plant, the “Academic village”, the “Festival Park”, “Sun Splash”, the $13 million land grab, and gold plated police & fire departments won’t attract big business maybe they view us as broke! (or thereabouts) As I recall, private business endeavors to “make” money. You can‘t drop the ball if you never held it!

why would any big corp.want to move where they dont even have the water and sewer infrastructure in place? If they cant Flush then move somewhere they can. And they did. Estero won out over our wonderful city.why? because of the POLITICS. We need to continue with those people that want to make our city a Destination for evryone to enjoy and not become the City Of Yesterday!

Bobbie I recognize it fully. My agenda is for the city to fail, the state bring in a receiver and Lee County to provide the services. Just because someone gets up at a council meeting and tells me his father and like minded people couldn't make the county work for them does not convince me a river is the reason. It tells me those people were not forceful enough in quality or numbers. An area of 160,000 plus people should be able to get the attention of the county. Just because an area is the biggest in land mass does not show me anything more than it is the biggest in land mass. I have been hearing growing pains since 1982. The population is here the 80,000 plus homes are here. Too long a wait to still see the business plan is wrong. The SLICK SIX is wrong!
