Opposing viewpoint to Kevin McGrail of April 13

April 19, 2013

To the editor: I was disappointed in Councilman McGrail’s doom-and-gloom description of Cape Coral, the desperate situation he feels we are in, and his proposed no growth tax plan....

OK Rick, you have slung the first mud at your political opponent but what are your answers? You have lately attended meetings but except for NW Cape issues you have been absent from most council meetings. If you don't think tax diversification is the answer how do you propose paving roads? Your general overview is a little too simplistic to address any individual issue facing this city, so unless you have specific solutions to these problems your credibility is at zero. We can find any bozo to point fingers, as has been shown with the mayor but real answers must follow your general comments or else you share a seat with him.

Mr. Williams, candidate for McGrail's Council seat, if you were at these revenue meetings, which I watched one on the City's website,it seems you just don't believe the City Manager, correct, the CM is exaggerating the situation and for what purpose? The City manager was hired with a background of 25 years CM experience and out of a pool of over 70 applicants, and now you call him a liar and because McGrail echoed the CM statement, McGrail and the rest of the Council, except for two, are liars also? Nice. I don't recall seeing you come to the podium and calling anyone a liar. Or even stating that the CM & the Council are purporting "gloom & doom." Mr. Williams where is your evidence that these statements are false? Hope you grow a pair and address your mud slinging allegations from the podium at the "Revenue" hearing on Monday!I'll be watching & so will the rest of the Cape.

Williams, living in the North Cape you know there are no facilities up there. Few your street lights, roads, parks, hydrants, let alone water and sewer? North Cape pays for all of those things for the South Cape. “smart management, tough decisions and economic GROWTH.” Your RAG buddies have cut so much out of the city budget there is nowhere else to go. “Tough decisions” is deciding in an election year the people need the truth. How will the North Cape have any growth without the much needed infrastructure you don’t want to fund? Other than the fact that you want his CHAIR, why throw McGrail under a bulldozer? McGrail didn’t create this problem, he is talking about ways to fix it. Shame on you for ignoring that there are 7 other people on council who will have to address this issue. What are YOUR ideas?

Mr. McGrail is Lazy! He wants to take the easy way out by raising taxes rather than actually represent those for whom he serves. This city has the funds to operate. It just takes some work and dedication to make it happen. McGrail certainly does not represent my best interests so I will not be voting for him.

Mr Williams, if you are going against the public service tax and other ideas, the only other option is cutting services/layoffs. What are you willing to cut/whom are you willing to layoff? I for one live in Cape Coral because I like good police/fire service, city water, sunsplash/yacht club etc. If I wanted low taxes and no services/high crime I would move to Lehigh. So what are your solutions? I know you are reading these comments so give us your ideas.

Mr. Williams, where are the specifics of what you would cut? That seems to be missing from your letter.

Mr. Williams, at one of the very few meetings he attended, was seen AND overheard speaking to Mr. McGrail. He stated that while he could not say it publicly, he fully supported the tax diversification plan. Hmmm...lying then or lying now? I certainly don't want to find out AFTER the election!

Mr. Williams .. this type of letter surprises me,especally, coming from you. Most of us have always regarded you as having a very positive outlook on city issues and respect for others. The type of behavior you have shown in this letter(written in your own words?)makes me question your integrity and your wisdom.Exactly what have you achieved by bashing McGrail? The old RAG days are no longer and the person that gets the citizens VOTE will have Honesty, Integrity and the Knowledge in the workings of this GREAT city.Hope you realize this and find yourself a new direction.of course it just my humble opinion

Interesting 2/3 of the people walked out of the council meeting tonight after they spoke against the utility tax, the fire district tax and the maxing out of the millage rate. Kev time for damage control buddy. I am pretty sure they especially walked out on YOU. The scare tactics are not working anymore. They are finally seeing through the veil. But fear not because while you get the pike your close comrades shall be voted out at a different time.

1Sandy did tou see the back of the heads of 2/3 of the residents who left after Kevin McGrail spoke. I think that was clear the residents have had enough of his service. Let's see if he goes down in defeat by as much come the election.

Most of the fools on the council and the city manager can't denote the difference between SOME and NONE.

Parks and Rec the city gave it an increase in this years budget recall? Take it back. Side walk crew if there are no funds. Then cut it back or dismantle it for a year when you try it again.

How about the I believe 70' boat the police are maintaining for some doctor from Miami. We still holding on to that for an IRS deduction? (Old rerun of Cape TV Murphy to that city council 2011.) There is money left to pull from the budget and balance $20 million about $39K per week.

But they are going to free up $25 million plus with a fire district tax. A 7% to 9% utility tax on electric.

Cut millage.

Contd. What it does is leaves a city that does not know how to budget wide open means to increase Utility tax, increase fire district tax, increase millage rate.

Biggest perpetuation of the "shell game" I have ever seen!

To the residents who walked out of the city council meeting Monday April 22, 2013.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Mr. Williams, you are a fool if you believe that this city is coming back, it is not. Many changes are necessary for this city to recover, it is no longer a viable business model to think that you will be able to have a functioning city on the backs of the retiree tax dollars. It will not happen they will not flock here as predicted, every study nation wide has shown that it will not happen. To have a viable city it must be self supporting not retiree supported, time for you to wake up.

Linda 53 just tell us one thing was it you who clued Council person Kevin McGrail into the fact he didn't know what the heck he was doing with the Utility Tax? Was it you who told him you better go home and look at a bill so you know what your talking about?

Was it you Linda 53 who told Carioscia to bring in a bill just in case Kevin forgets?

Was it you who coached McClain to say I knew it was more than $150 per residence? Like he knew and kept it a secret to waste more time?

I can't wait to learn how to run a software program for $14,000. This will be next.

Linda may be the homeowners can each develop a spreadsheet to calculate the Utility tax. Then sell it to the city to pay the Utility Tax? Good project for you. I'll even show you how to use Excel for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone seen the City of Cape Coral's IT Dept.? How is that software company doing who's bills we are paying to keep afloat? So many questions and so few answers ever come forward! Linda 53 get on it

Interesting reading by Google city manager John Szerlag.

You can read his interview to the New York Times and it is almost verbatim what he spouted about Cape Coral.

You can read about his figure of reducing 95 city staff the first year. Sound familiar?

You can read about a council person fighting the cuts saying what kind of city do you want to live in. McGrail?

You can see after Szerlag did cut 35% of the city staff Troy, Michigan is doing just fine!

Szerlag states every week "I can give you what ever you want".

So the culprits are the city council and the first one to go will be McGrail.

You see the city of Cape Coral, Fl. will be fine with a balanced staff, budget and no new taxes and fees.

The only difference between Troy and Cape Coral is here they do not CUT when they should have. The city is stuck on 1200 employees.

General fund of $442 million and they can't find $20 million? Roughly a 4.5% reduction?

1 Sandy you have always held that number 1 spot and my dog gladly give up the title to you for two reasons.

One because you are and two because you deserve it!
