McGrail has shamed Cape Coral

April 13, 2013

To the editor: Kevin McGrail, Cape Coral councilman, made us appreciate the statement “it’s better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you’re a fool then to open it and remove all do....

John Sullivan was sworn in November 2009, four years ago, not November 2010.

If Bill Deille runs again which by the way will be after the Utility Tax kicks in and the home owners figure out what has been going on again! I will vote for him and others who want something that resembles a Company Store than a city! Face it it does not work when you do not stay within a budget. Too much service due to too much land mass and not enough people to support which you think is a top shelf city government. Why even places like Wyoming and Utah know what services and how much service they can provide. The Ponderosa needs a haircut!

CapeCoralCuestions you seem to think I am Bill Deile? Janet Deile? I am not. I do not even know them personally, or have I ever worked for Bill in actively campaigning for him or any of the others that you call RAGS. I certainly did vote for them based on what they stood for in making a poorly run city prior to their election. We watched the Bond rating that they inherited at a B rating raised to A. We watched the debt service on reckless short term borrowing with very high interest rates be reversed. We watched more production with less city staff. The only reason they had to cut spending was of all the debt service being paid on shrinking tax receipts, and a lack of reducing overtime, not curbing the sale of vacation time. We even had to endure false information by the police dept. into the payroll records. We had to fight the police union for $82,000 which they brought to arbitration LOST appealed and LOST again. Give and Take my another recent joke! You have a short memory!

liteswitch--You and your ilk are directly responsible for what is happening in the Cape NOW. You wanted no taxes and stepped all over yourselves and everyone else to accomplish that. Well, you got what you wanted. Now, do we raise funds or shut down Parks and Rec? Do you pit Special Pops against normal kids? Do you pit seniors against single mothers? YES, YOU DO! Because you and the other RAGS and pals are mean, miserable, cheap, selfish, self-centered critters without a though for anybody but yourselves! Quite frankly, you lie, make up false data, demean anyone who thinks differently than you, run to the press with every bit of krap you can find. You and your phony medals will go down in Cape History as some of the most heinous, vicious people ever to govern here. Have another Dewars!

Dick you are an unmitigated hypocrite! You creep out from under your rock to cast blame on a true gentleman. You sat silent as Dilie, Kheen,Brandt and others ranted and tormented citizens! Shame on YOU! Cast all the krap you want, it will only make Leezt and Sully look bad. Do the intelligent folk a favour and continue with you hate-speak---it helps us! Rick Williams is a RAG and sycophant of Sullivan whose stance is identical to McGrails and he’s only running as a RAG SPOILER – shame on him. Shame on the rest of council for not stepping up and telling it like it is! Carioscia, Nesta,Erbick,Donnel,AND Richard Leon, Vince Cummings,Ashby! Where are you in this issue? Where are your voices? Sitting back cowardly or stepping forward to do what is right? You owe the citizens true answers. Sitting silent when misinformation and lies are told is a sign of agreement! McGrail has worked hard and long to bring dollars to the northcape. He's the best Rep up there in decades!

1982 the roads in the northwest quadrant of the city were in need of repair. So who do you blame for the fact that they were let go. There were hardly any homes. Do you blame Mayor Price?, Butler?, Mazurkeiwitz?, Fiecthaler?, Burche?, all had booming home sales and growing population. The Cape was at 34,000 in 1982 and over 172,000 after the 2nd quarter of 2006. Just as season ended and private business saw the growth had stopped and began to make adjustments based on what was happening in the rest of the country. Sullivan was seated as mayor NOVEMBER 10, 2010. He was left with virtually nothing from the spend it before it's collected council.

Lightswitch, do you think $6.5 million to fix roads are the ONLY capital improvements that need to be done?

Now you can say what you will but it always reverts back to OVERSPENDING, MISSPENDING, POOR MANAGEMENT at the various Department levels. It is what it is. This city manager nor his financial director whose demeanor has changed since she was brought in under Gary King. I am betting between 5 of the councilmen and the city manager she is biding her time for survival. I do not fault that. You nothing will really be achieved until the state comes in and looks to make sure this crap is not political and it is not. The season was a success so where is the city's success? These same councilmen who allowed the borrowing and are part of the uncontrolled overhead we experience are now saying your future was mortgaged. Not if you go by the prior council. Go back look at the cape tv recordings, look at the archives at the newspapers. It is there it is documented, as others have documented it!

Why was it Gary King found $6.5 million and started the road work in district 6? Established a plan to pave $6.5 million each year? Why did city manager Szerlag who submitted last years budget and used the $6.5 million which was actually a duplication of King's budget unable to fund it for 2014. I will tell you. The current city council and the city manager who is directing and paying the bills overspent the budget which Szerlag submitted last summer 2012. Remember he had his budget to take care of in Troy Michigan first! Now this current council must have given him input as to what had taken place budget wise the year before. And unless you are complete fools McGrail who was instrumental in hiring him would have been lobbying for those same district 6 roads. Where are the reserves that were put in the year before Szerlag got here? Spent? Where are the reserves in this current years budget 2013? Spent? You see the 20 million short has always been funded by bonds. RECKLESS SPEND

Mr. Kalfus, I know you are a strong proponent of the Ten Commandments, but your stance toward Mr. McGrail is not very Christian, and I think Lovejoy just gave false witness. Wink, wink!

the city has a budget large enough to fund itself without new taxes, they just don't want to tell you the truth of how they are spending the money. CAP taxes

I happen to think that maintaining our roadways, infrastructure, and equipment, as well as providing competative wages and benefits to attract the 'best of the best' employees IS a NEED and not a WANT. Some may not care about the appearance of their city but I do. I don't want to live in a blighted community which reduces property values and impacts my investment. Those that care are willing to pay. Those that don't can save their money and live in a community that doesn't care. I hear taxes are real cheap in Owsley County, KY.

"During a council meeting the councilman not only raised his voice to citizens opposing his view, he had the unmitigated gall to scold and denigrate good people simply because they didn't agree with him." Hey DICK, aren't you talking about the bald guy that was bounced from the Council last election?
