I believe John Sullivan ran for Mayor and won November 2009. That is why he is up for re-election now. Just the facts Mac.

1Sandy have you read any of the background of Stockton Ca.? I bet not. Just remember your heroes jammed through interest only loans, millions in general obligation bonds that we will have to pay for the entire 30 years at high interest rates. Brandt and Deille voted against these tactics. Documented in the summer of 2010. Sandy that was before our present mayor John Sullivan even ran for the office. Because of these stupid credit tactics conspired by Terry Stewart with the "I don't recall antics by the then Director of Financial Services Mark Mason there was no money left to work with. They used the money to pay the 2 20 million dollar bonds they issued just before they left town. Another one of your patron saints who fought (railed) at every turn to straighten out the city's staff who did what ever they chose to do. Now he is fixing newspaper boxes! Why he only now has been able to get to city hall to pick up his mail. You and he must have gone to different schools TOGETHER.

I could say it was a stack job of Terry Stewart and Mark Mason. However not being able to say I made an error typing is not one of the things I am afraid to say. Unlike you Lolita. Best of all I more than understand you could not make the jump in your mind of who I meant. But now even you know.

To DUOoo8 you stated on another post you work out of your house. You really need to get out. You could even leave bread crumbs to return home.

You also raised the question where are the gated communities in Ft. Myers. Assuming you really do not I give you a tiny list. Gateway, Botanica, Danforth Lakes, Gladiolus Preserve, Catalina Isles, Province Park.

Sandy as far as what they did they got rid of the short term interest only loans, they shed bonds that they were not given with unchangeable interest rates. You know smart girl the bonds that were locked into a specific time and could not be bought out or consolidated. You know the one's at 7% while people off the street nobodies who do know something were borrowing at under 4%. Yeah this city was only a half step behind Empire, Nevada and Stockton California, Central Falls, Rhode Island. That moron said no municipality will ever go bankrupt. As far as Szerlag he keeps getting it in the record I'll do what ever the council wants me to do. So the people now know The council needs to be changed Mc Grail first. Because 1200 staff and their spouses are not going to get there way this time. Just ask why so much blow back in Cape Coral, Fl. The staff is poorly compensated in the economy where they live? NO They have poor pensions? No They have poor insurance or other benefits? NO.

Sandy when the millions of dollars of bonds when Mark Stewart was just about ready to leave this city did not have in its hands enough money to run the city and pay the other general obligation bonds and interest only debt Stewart, Mason and the council who Bertolini, Day, Tate and Burche who were the drivers on that council before now Mayor John Sullivan was not on. He had not even put his name in to run. But I will remind you he did win by 63%. Sandy get some facts from a written timeline in this city not your recollection or your interpretation. It is all on video tape and print. Do some homework now that your moved and now settled in.

Well, after last nights gaveling down of a decorated, combat veteran of two wars, I for one have had enough.....enough of Mayor Sullivan. He can try and "buy" all the veteran votes he wants with that phony baloney spectacle of giving a check to the local veterans club, but all I heard last night was the start of a respectful and calm statement by this veteran & Mayoral candidate "laying the blame" which the Mayor took as a violation of Council Chamber rules. Where does the "rules" say that you can't point fingers at the culprit that has caused this infrastructure debacle? What happened to the 1st Amendment that this military veteran had fought to preserve for, even the Mayor, but I guess not for himself, according to Mayor Sullivan. Unfortunately the Council camera was on the speaker during most of this time, can anyone tell me, that was there, how the Mayor was reacting? SULLIVAN was so wrong on so many levels.

The simple fact of the matter is that Steve Lovejoy never produces fact to back up his accusations. He ran a nutty campaign based on overturning the ad valorem tax, which is a state law, and not subject to the whims of council and the mayor.

What I find remarkable is his lack of grammar and syntax...if you buy signs or pamphlets from him, check them carefully BEFORE you pay!

@SLovejoy: You say "Cape Corals cost per person to run the city, is three times that of other cities, the city has one of the highest deed ratios of all the cities in Florida" where are your web links for proof, your source, so we can check it out? Because there isn't proof. What is truly amusing is that you have ranted for months in these comment sections how bad the current Council is, but now you say "The problems you have are the egos in city hall, not necessarily the council or mayor" WTF, make up your mind. And as far as cuts to be made, you know the simple ones, name them. Where were you when your cronies were spending infrastructure money on "other" things, like dinner for their wives, roving assistants for King so to spy on City employees, phony baloney audits, etc. We never heard a word out of you over that. You see Steve, you can't have it both ways, you are either a true blue critic or a blog slob who sits there and cherry picks his criticism.

1Sandy: I do disagree with the decision, and they know it, there is nothing I can do about it, except make some changes now. Just an FYI, Cape Corals cost per person to run the city, is three times that of other cities, the city has one of the highest deed ratios of all the cities in Florida, do you think doing a good job ?? The cuts that the city has to make are very simple and can be done without missing a beat. The problems you have are the egos in city hall, not necessarily the council or mayor

@SLovejoy: Of course you won't "Monday night quarterback" their decision, because they are your cronies. You obviously disagree with what they did or you would come straight out and say, that you agree with what they did. T party people like you choke when you realize what Diele & Brandt did. Do you think for one minute that they did not look for waste to cut? There was none left to cut unless they wanted to impact core services and quality of life. Is that what you are advocating? "Cape Slum?" Sitting there at your computer trying to play "gotcha" any slob can do, however, coming up with specific solutions, well, now there is a new idea. So go ahead, write your little combacks to the LTE and maybe, just maybe one day you will realize that what you are doing is really nothing, nothing at all relevant, like you and the rest of your cronies that were voted out.

1sandy: Again you keep missing the point, the contract was done in 2004 to 2006 and the raises took effect over the 2005 through 2009. So about the mill rate, I did address that, and I have their answer and reason, do I agree with the rate, and I am not going to Monday night quarterback their decision.

@SLovejoy: Dude what is your problem, you keep outing Brandt and Diele...that's right, they were Councilman (2008 & 2009) when the Police contracts were ratified by Council. Soooo they gave them their final 2 raises. But what does it mean? It doesn't mean SQUAT! And we can thank the both of them for the 60 percent millage increase also. Real fiscal conservatives they are...Bawhahaha! Get a freaking life, will you?

@lightswitch: You are correct sir. Waste and mismanagement may have started befor Gary and the Playboys but they allowed mismanagement to continue. How else would you discribe the taking of infrastructure funds and using to balance the budget. And I get it, they did not want to hit the taxpayers up for another tax increase after Diele and Brandt already did that under the Burch administration with an election coming. However, an audit of the books by the new and improved City Manager revealed how the RAG's were balancing the books. SHAME ON MAYOR SULLIVAN who will not duck this during his upcoming campaign as well as the Leetz! Sullivan and Leetz were such fiscal conservatives and Gary was such a professional City Manager...Bawhahahaha....all they did was rob Peter to pay Paul!

As far as cutting this city did next to nothing in reducing staff or reeling in pays that Stewart in some cases doubled. I hear councilman Mc Grail say "we have cut back to the bone." The cuts were never made so how can one make a statement like this. When you have businesses paying in *% and the residences 92% in real estate tax it tells the story. When the businesses are being subsidized by the residential for sewer and trash pick. It also tells the story of mismanagement and stolen dollars. If this was not the case when the residential home owner looks at this years TRIM notice it will be even more evident. Oh and this last piece of work with the Police of saving millions of dollars. Look at the timeline of 25 years. Big Savings? Now go add your assessment for water/sewer, your fire district TAX, your added tax to tour Lee COUNTY ELECTRIC bill. Other communities do not operate this way and if they do it costs less and the taxpayer receives as much if not more. How;s that
