City Has Legal Right to Assess
July 14, 2009 - Sylvia Heldreth
The Cape Coral City Council has decided to use their legal right to proceed with the expansion of utility service to 60,000 properties in the north and southwest parts of the city. The effect of this should be to improve residents' quality of life and the value of Cape Coral real estate.
The city is in a legal position to do this but the $6000 to $17,000 assessments seem daunting to some of the residents of the area. Mayor Jim Burch has said that the cost to residents is necessary to "poise ourselves for growth." This will be a benefit to everyone as the real estate market improves.
