May 6, 2009 - Steve Anderson
A funny thing happened to me this past week when I was giving lessons on the range at River Hall. I sweated! It kind of hit me that for the past 6 months almost it's been very comfortable on the lesson tee and now with beads of sweat rolling in my eyes every few shots the realization that summer's here has quickly set. The good news of course for local golfers is that we've got our golf courses back, the crowds have left and the prices have gone way down, making the game affordable again. Looking at various ads in the paper it seems most courses are in the $25-35.00 range which is a lot better than near $100.00 green fees in the winter months. A lot of area courses offer an early morning price, mid morning price then a late day fee which in some cases is only $15.00 for all the golf you can get in, so it's a great bargain.
Some courses also have summer leagues after work which is a great way to get together with your friends for some golf and drink. Bargains galore can be found. In my own case I offer a specia discounted summer price on my lessons as do many other local pros. The summer's a great time to take lessons and work on your game so you'll be ready to go low next fall when your northern friends return.
I was also glad to see that the Cape Coral Golf Club which has been closed for some time is planning to re-open in a year or so. Always nice to have your neighborhood course there for your enjoyment.
