Wow, what a Masters

April 13, 2009 - Steve Anderson
What a finish to the Masters. Angel Cabrera came through as the winner but for a few hours it could have been any one of a number of guys. The front 9 that Phil had was incredible, 6 under par for the front 9, tying the all-time record. He just couldn't keep it going and did the cardinal sin on #12, hitting it short into the creek for a double. Tiger was great too but was just too many shots back to catch up. I feel bad for Kenny Perry as he was 2 up with 2 to play and finished bogey, bogey. You can't win any tournament let alone a major with a finish like that. I've been to the Masters 3 times and what you don't see on TV are the hills and undulations in the greens. TV sort of flattens everything out and doesn't let you see the hills as much. The average amateur would not only 3-putt most greens there but would have some 4 and 5 putts too. The greens at my course, River Hall C.C. have some fast putts with some 3 foot hills and it's fun imagining what it would be like at the Masters.

For the juniors out there in SW Florida, the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour is hosting the SW Florida Junior Challenge at River Hall on May 9-10. It's the first time the Hurricane tour is in our area and I encourage juniors to register to play. There will be several age divisions for both boys and girls in a 36 hole, stroke play format. Call Mario Conte, the tour director at 904 379-2697 for info. and details.

See you next week,

Steve
