| | Abolish Senior Housing?August 6, 2012 - Sylvia HeldrethThere is an exemption in the Fair Housing Act that prohibits discrimination against households with children. It does not apply to senior housing where a community is either occupied entirely by people over 62 years of age or 80 percent of the occupied units have at least one person 55 years or older in residence. Some have said that all discrimination should be eliminated and senior housing should not be permitted, especially when the unit is inherited by a young family member. What do you think?
