| | Condo Associations Post Names of Delinquent OwnersDecember 14, 2011 - Sylvia HeldrethThe number of owners who are delinquent in paying association fees has increased. Boards are faced with paying the bills but the assessments aren't coming in to make that easy. There is talk in some communities about posting the names of those who are delinquent in the community newsletter, on the bulletin board and on the web site. The Florida Consumer Protection Practices Act prohibits the collection of debts through means designed to embarrass a debtor but fed up board members say they don't care. Some say this will embarrass deadbeats into paying. Others say that those who are delinquent because of uncontrollable circumstances will be embarrassed but most likely still not be able to pay. Those who are delinquent on a second home and are walking away because they are "upside down" are likely not in the area so their embarrassment is minimal. They won't pay anyway. What do you think? Posting their names likely will do little for MFrances reasoning, but we must find a way to recoup and encourage them to pay. MFrancesDec-27-11 1:03 PM Embarrassed? How do these people think that the others in their buildings feel? They are the ones paying for all those 'embarrassed' delinquents. Post a Comment | |
